Lewes is the county town of East Sussex. It's a fine old town with cobbled streets, bookshops, lots of good pubs, an 11th century castle, more history than you can cope with .....and it's ruined by the atrociously domineering, ill conceived building of county hall.
Never mind - it's only really visible from outside the town by people like us walking the South Downs Way. Once you're in the town you can almost forget it's there - particularly down by the riverside where Harveys Brewery still make their fine 'Sussex Bitter'.
In the 11th century they knew how to build nice things ......
