Alfriston is a very pretty village on the west bank of the River Cuckmere, about 4 miles inland from the coast. It is a victim of its own beauty and becomes almost over-run with tourists in the summer months. The best (and sometimes only) way to visit is on foot following the South Downs Way which runs right through the heart of the village.
Its delightful church at the back of The Tye is known as the 'Cathedral of the Downs' and, together with the Clergy House, is a must for all visitors.
